I think most nerdy conventions are only loosely about whatever they say they're about, and they'll attract fans of all kinds who generally like other nerdy things (be it anime, gaming, comics, whatever)

Like I'm dressing up as a webcomic character and a cartoon character for Gen Con, and I don't think that's out of place at all.
