i'm reading "the windup girl" by paul bacigalupi" right now, and so far it's pretty good! the premise is that ge crops/pests ran rampant and wiped out a lot of genetic diversity and the fall of civilization happened. i'm still not entirely certain what the plot is, but the worldbuilding is fun, and so far the science isn't entirely implausible!

We are huge Bacigalupi fans in this household. Sooooooooooooooooo good. Have you read Pump 6? It's a collection of short stories set in the same universe. *heart in throat* Awesome.

i haven't read "pump 6" -- i picked up "the windup girl" on a whim about a month ago and i know next to nothing about the author or his books. i will look for it when i finish this one; short stories migh be a bit easier to get through on lunch breaks alone! thanks for the rec! =]

if you're still looking for recs, have you read any dianna wynn jones? i really love "deep secret" and its sequal "the merlin conspiracy".

Is that the author of the Chrestomanci series? I love those but haven't read any of her others.
