It's written as a children's book, which is part of the why for bad writing.

Please allow me to clarify. What I meant is that it may seem like bad writing from an older person's point of view (or for somebody who is used to reading 'adult' books) because of syntactical structure and word choice. It doesn't make it bad writing, but if somebody is used to a certain grade level of reading, it can certainly inhibit ones enjoyment of the work.

I completely agree w/ you. With everything you've said about the books. I think they are decently written, but they are children's books, and as such, like you said, will never have the complexity that we long for as adults really.

But I think C.S. Lewis > J.K. Rowling. By miles. And he was writing children's books, too.

I find that Rowling's work is different than Lewis's though. Lewis was written to be read aloud to children. While the first few books in Rowling's work reflects this same aspect, the later books don't. -I haven't read all of the Narnia series though, so I could be wrong, his books may do the same thing-. :)
