I try to be open-minded but the TF2 fans who draw/write the characters as this kawaii bullshit drive me insane

Yeah, I hate it when fandom interprets a character as more sweet or sympathetic than they actually are, especially when the character is a jackass.
IMO the best part about the characters in TF2 is that they're all either crazy or complete assholes. It's so much fun to play a game about a bunch of jerks shooting each other up and screaming insults. It wouldn't be as much fun otherwise.

This is every fandom. Every single one of them. No matter how unlikely I think it is that this new thing I'm into could have hordes, I'm talking hordes of people somehow turning it into a congregation of shy gooey-eyed shy anime characters, where Homely Dude stares up with shyly knitted eyebrows on his blushing, plastic face into the shiny tender countenance of Other Homely Dude He Doesn't Like, who in text notes his just-invented-right-now endearing cutesy mannerisms and handsome features, it always happens. And I know that since it can still surprise me, I'm still not totally dead inside. But for how long?

I realize you probably know this, or you don't, and are new to fandom in which case I am sorry. But, yeah, with stuff like this I always wonder why they change everything about the characters. Because if you can only like them if you do that, maybe you don't actually like them.
