We're not a good group for that, I'm afraid. There's very little community, little talking to each other (unless it's arguing) and practically no conversation/interaction lasts longer than 20 hours. We're like the bastard child of Chat Roulette and Robot Chicken.

Still, if it's what keeps you amused, rock on.

I think maybe you're participating differently than I am. I have a lot of fun, very little arguing, and lengthy conversations aren't that rare.

....I feel sad for your style of interaction. Maybe if you talk to people for reasons other than arguing with them you'd see something different.

Hey, I have lots of non-fighting conversations on here, and I happen to like Robot Chicken. I'm just saying there's not a lot of background universe or personal info available to make canon out of.

I think that's the point of the secret? Like they're taking a blank slate of people with a few conversations and making up background for it?
intrigueing: (Default)

[personal profile] intrigueing 2012-07-20 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
But that doesn't mean we don't interact and discuss things in a friendly way and keep track of people we like/share opinions with and make a point to reply to their comments and understand certain fandom-specific things about each other (insanenoodlyguy is sarcastic all the time, joltymcjolterson posts cute animal pics, trollometer evaluates trolls, fauxkaren has a weird grudgewanker on her back, there is a troll who derails thread by call everyone in bg pics ugly, anonymouslyyours is a mass-commenter, certain members can be counted on to comment on secrets in certain fandoms, etc). We just don't know much RL stuff about each other, which is pretty useless info on a comm like F!S.

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2012-07-20 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
What is a mass-commenter? Are you saying I talk a lot? Oops.

'Tis a good thing! ;)

I think this sums up certain aspects of this comm very well. I enjoy the number of constants we have around here.

Which is why it's not the best community to create RPF out of - I'm not saying OP can't (I mean, they have, obviously) I'm just commenting on the lack of available 'canon' material, as opposed to many other coms.

[personal profile] intrigueing 2012-07-20 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, that makes sense, but I actually thought the exact opposite — the fact that no one knows much about anyone makes it easier to just headcanon whateverthefuck you want simply based on their comments and userpics and names instead of having to deal with the people's actual lives.
visp: (Default)

[personal profile] visp 2012-07-20 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
True. Also makes it not invasive or creepy but just fun.
diet_poison: (Default)

[personal profile] diet_poison 2012-07-20 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this - and I don't really consider it RPF either; you're basically making characters out of icons and a few comments, without touching the actual people sitting in front of their screens.

Has the potential to be a lot of fun imo.

I am really bad at remember pseudonyms/things they've done/ect. I tend to be very present-moment focused. It's worked for me so far, but lately I as I start to get into the less fandom-specific stuff and more about fandom as a culture, my short-term memory is being held against me. (People are bringing up my habits/words from YEARS ago and I'm like, "...whaaa?"). So I think I may actually take everything you've said and write it down to start a list of references/notes (I don't have the LJ Notes feature as mine isn't a paid account).

Do you have a byline/commentary on me? :P

I've had a lot of lovely (even informative) conversations with people here. It's possible!
ext_74116: (Default)

[identity profile] visp.livejournal.com 2012-07-19 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh there's lots of good conversations - there's just not as much info for making up friend-fiction.
elaminator: (Dragon Age 2: Hawke)

[personal profile] elaminator 2012-07-20 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Ah okay, I misinterpreted that. I think if someone spent enough time reading all the comments, maybe even checking out personal journals, it would be possible. Not saying it would be accurate, but it's just a fantasy for OP anyway so it doesn't necessarily have to be. Plus, if you read enough comments by a person you can sometimes get a good feel for them (and maybe who they'd be more likely to talk to or get along with). Again, it might not be totally accurate, but hey.

[personal profile] unicornherds 2012-07-19 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
If you dislike it so much why do you come back? (not snark, just curious)

As for me, I have a lot of fun here. I think some people are the bees knees and have had awesome conversations and interactions. I don't really see the "no conversation lasts longer than 20 hours" part as a negative. We have short bursts of fun conversations and move on to new fun conversations.
ext_74116: (Default)

[identity profile] visp.livejournal.com 2012-07-19 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't say I didn't like it. I think it's lots of fun. There's variety, lots of interesting short conversations and even the arguments are amusing and anything that gets too nasty gets shut down pretty quick. I'm just saying it's not a good place to create full RPF/friend-fiction-ish characters out of - as far as internet communities go. There's not the huge details about people's lives that you would get in many other communities and the sort of background info that would make a good base for that sort of thing.

[personal profile] unicornherds 2012-07-19 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, gotcha. I misread your comment as saying this place is full of not nice people with no worthwhile interactions.

True, there's not a lot of personal details, but I think for the active repeat customers there is a personality that you can see emerge over time. Definitely enough to create a headcanon character.
ext_74116: (Default)

[identity profile] visp.livejournal.com 2012-07-20 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Good point. I mean, really you can create headcanon out of anything.
gobbledigook: (Default)

[personal profile] gobbledigook 2012-07-20 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe the OP will read this comment and will slap a tsundere headcannon on you =3=

I-it's not like I think we're the right group for this or anything!...s-stupid fandom secrets...

[personal profile] visp 2012-07-20 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yanno, I'm kinda finding the idea amusing now.

In an entirely unrelated topic, I happen to be a ridiculously intelligent and good-looking half-elf half-angel half-vampire. With mood-color-changing eyes and golden midnight hair down to my ankles and wings. but the wings are magic and only show up on a full moon or when I am really happy.

half-elf half-angel half-vampire

INCONCEIVABLE!

You can't have three halves! That defies the Laws of Fractions. It's a Paradox - one that could break the universe! D: What have you done?

...also, wait, are your wings down by your ankles? o.O
visp: (Default)

[personal profile] visp 2012-07-21 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Actually... you can!

Also, I am very magical, so that makes it all possible. And no, the wings come out of my shoulders, but they go all the way down to my ankles.
