There's nothing wrong with this. People handle death in their own way, and the fact that you were never close to him and didn't really have an emotional bond with him probably has an impact. I've also heard from other people who handle death in the family with blankness - not numbness, as in stemming the tide of some turbulent emotion, but just blankness, like they don't feel anything.

I don't think you're being a horrible person, and your reaction isn't outside the definition of "normal", at least not from what I've observed.

Thanks, that helps a lot. It just threw me a little when the social worker told me it was okay if I wanted to cry and then after I admitted to not being upset at all, she got very short with me.

Sounds like someone didn't pick the right career.

Everyone grieves (or doesn't grieve) in their own way. Who are they to tell you how to react and feel?

I came here just to say exactly the same thing. Everyone deals with death in a very personal manner and there's no 'right' way to do so.

Agreed. :/ I'm sorry about your grandfather, but you aren't an awful person for not grieving (or not grieving a certain way) for a man you barely knew.
