Is Bane Hispanic? I don't know really know anything about the character

I believe he's half Hispanic.

Neither does anybody who watched that movie. But original comics Bane was born in the fictitous Santa Prisca, in South America. It was a shithole country and his father was an English Mercenary who took a local lady as a lover.

Because it was a big shithole, their unborn child was sentenced to carry out his fathers crimes.

A child growing up in a prison does not turn out healthy in any mental way. Physically he was a brick shithouse. He was chosen to be a test subject for some nasty experimental drugs that'd killed all the other applicants. Turns out they got it right this time, or he was that hard, probably a bit of both. It had nothing to do with painkillers in the comics.

His obsession with batman stemmed in part from the fact that he anthromorphized his fears growing up into a bat. When he heard some larger then life figure that ruled the knights had adopted it as an emblem, he saw this as a sign that this was a person he needed to defeat.

His plans to do so were much, much better in the comics.

Doesn't it come out tomorrow or like, midnight tonight? Unless you're talking about the few people who saw advanced screenings or whatever

Anyhow I'm super okay with the character being Hispanic -- there aren't enough Hispanic characters in comics as it is and supervillains should be diverse too

Well, none of what I just typed is relevant to the character in the movie at all. Especially the part where he's got GOOD PLANS.

I won't spoil anything but his plan in the movie doesn't make a lot of sense.

Did they turn him into a dumb thug for DKR? 'Cause that would be super disappointing. I'm not going to be seeing it so I don't care about being spoilered.

Not quite a dumb thug, but his motivations, personality and pretty much everything but his name are all completely different.

Spoilers below!

The origin story is still referenced, but now is given to another character for whom it makes no fucking sense: Talia Al Gul.

The plan seems to be some sort of combination of stock exchange robbery and nuclear terrorism. Picture the nightmare version of the occupy movement.

Oh! And if you read the original, bane is still involved with his origin story, but he's now Trogg and Bird combined, more or less, as the "caretaker" of Tali who followed her out of prison.

Again, why they decided his story needed to be her story is completely beyond me.

I'm really surprised that fandom isn't upset about it, especially considering the uproar when Last Airbender cast.

I didn't hear any uproar over Liam Neeson playing Ra's al Ghul (who's Arab in the comics) in the first movie, either, so apparently it's not something you can expect from this fandom. Perhaps with the The Last Airbender, it was the main heroes being so unabashedly messed up that people just couldn't ignore, but a villain, folks turn a blind eye, I guess.
