I honestly don't understand why anyone thinks having ONLY Sam and Dean on the show is a good idea. If the boys have a group of friends and acquaintances and a suport system, but STILL gravitate towards each other and 'fuck everyone else we're the Winchesters', it's epic and awesome, blah blah blah. If they're only joined at the hip because they've got no one else, it's just sad and pathetic, and cheapens the 'brotherly bond' all those brother!stans keep shrieking about.

Yes! Exactly. They're with each other so much because they literally have no one else to talk to anymore. That's not indicative of a great bond to me. That's sad. If they were with each other by choice (as they used to be) that would be different. But now? Killing all of their friends does not strengthen their bond. I thought their relationship was terribly done last season. It seemed like they were just so tired of each other and I'm positive that wasn't the intention.
