I remember reading somewhere that she was told she was going to lose her first child very early in her pregnancy (he's alive and like fifteen now) and was devastated about it (which is how she explained away Bella suddenly realizing she wanted to have a baby -- despite the fact that Bella never thought about having a baby and was not Stephenie freaking Meyer who has five siblings, ninety cousins and probably planned every kid to the last second).

Personally I think the explanation for BD's break away from Bella was SM's huge lady boner for Jacob, though. Jesus, what a waste of pages that middle part was. The only interesting shit going on was with Bella and we had to spend time running around with boring fucking pissy little Jake.
