Re: I just really really need to vent
When my maternal grandmother died (and she had been doing badly, so it wasn't unexpected), I just felt a little sad. I saw her much more often than you saw your grandfather, but I still felt like I should have reacted more. I think we were all more relieved than anything that she was no longer suffering.
When my paternal grandmother died, I cried. We were much closer even if I didn't see her as often. I sniffled a bit after my mother told me the news and once I was alone in the shower I all-out bawled.
But really, it all depends on how you react to big events. So yes, it's normal if you don't feel anything. I can see why your mother might be upset that you're not reacting if she herself is grieving, even though she should not be accusing you of anything.
