i hope they never go down the pepper/happy road for... several reasons to do with how most ppl in the fandom are into it so that tony's cock is free to spar with other white dicks and not really because they give a fuck about ~cute comics canon or w/e. and also because favreau is ick nast gross and just the thought of him smooching paltrow makes me dry heave on her behalf.

I'm actually a big fan of Pepper as a character and I'm not entirely put off by the pairing qua pairing. What does bother me about Pepper/Tony is the ease with which it's all playing out between them.
I think it does something of a disservice to both of them as interesting and wonderful characters and to the relationship they have with one another. The smooth sailing in their relationship skips over key concepts that the two of them should have conflict over.
Basically, I'm not personally fussed about the ship itself either way, I just want to see the characters and their relationship, in whatever form (because romantic is not the be all and end of relationship), to be done justice to, and an easy road into happy, shiny monogamous land sells them both short, imo.

IA with you, though, that their relationship shouldn't be this easy. I love them to pieces, and I'm happy to see them together, finally, but, really, it shouldn't be this easy. I realize that they can't really explore their issues in The Avengers, but I'm hoping they throw some conflict into IM3 so we can see their characters advance and their relationship evolve.
