It was all so obviously a set up. He'd been trying to find a woman to marry to liven his career for a while, and had tried a couple of more famous ones who backed out pretty quickly. When he finally had something to get a bit of publicity he tried this couch jumping and it backfired badly, he sacked his manager because it had been her idea. (I think it may even have been his sister or another relative managing him at the time. ) It was just so fake that it made the cringing even worse.

She was barely mid way through her twenties and this older movie star (who she used to watch as a kid) blinded her with his money, his smile, and ridiculous acts of 'romance'...it didn't matter that the "whole world" warned her, not when he was seducing her with trips around the world and all the right words, I'm sure.
