Love the comics, short stories and Good Omens, like American Gods, dislike everything else. I think he works best at a short story length unless he's got collaborators (artist or writer, doesn't matter). So the American Gods TV series could be really awesome.

I think I'll enjoy American Gods much more as a TV series. I thought the book was interesting, but it literally took me 6 weeks to finish it. It dragged in places, and I could pinpoint exactly the bits that he'd left out of the original final cut. (they had the 10th anniversary edition for $2.00 on Kindle, so I can't really complain about wasting my money) A lot of "I as an author really need to know this so I can shape the character/situation, but it's not really necessary for the reader".

Neverwhere the TV show was far better than the book, IMO. Same should hold true for AG, I hope?

I didn't hate American Gods. I didn't fall all over myself drooling with OMGSQUEE over it. Sadly, that seems to be the either/or mold Gaiman fans are forced into, these days; instead of just one of many really good SFF authors out there, NG is suddenly The Only Author That Counts, Has Ever Counted, Will Ever Count.

How about three-quarters of a century of HELL NO?

PS -- I liked the variety in Fragile Things. Smoke & Mirrors was a bit weaker. I read AG the same year I read "From the Dust Returned." No guesses which one I found better. :-P Sandman, meh, I think it was a product of its time, and since I never read it at the time it was being published, I think I missed something in catching up with it later on.

Yes, I did read Sandman as it came out and I think that (like Good Omens) the hype around it now is so great that it would be very difficult for anything to live up to, no matter how good.
