I can understand finding Ed (and maaaaybe Al) annoying, but why Winry?

I liked FMA (the overall manga canon, not Brotherhood) the way it was, although I agree with you that I also found the supporting cast way more interesting and likable than the main trio. For me, the scenes that focused on the brothers were okay at best, but there were so many FUCK YEAH moments with the supporting characters!

I didn't find Winry annoying, but at the same time, I also don't think she added anything to the plot (imo) and I wouldn't have cared if they nixed her. To me it was a brothers-in-arms (literally) journey, and the sort of slapped on childhood love interest didn't fit?

That said, I quite liked Winry as a character and think people who find her annoying must be smoking something interesting.

This is pretty much exactly how I felt about Winry.

I liked Winry more in the first anime, when she got to be BFFs with Schiezka and was less of a love interest. She's still pretty great in the manga, though.

IDK, I like Winry but I can see why someone would find her annoying. Too many scenes where she's pining over Ed or being manipulative.

Huh?
I don't remember how she ever pines over Ed, even after realizing she's in love with him. There are tons of scenes where she worries about and misses him AND Al, but that's quite understandable given the fact that she's known them her entire life and suddenly they just somewhat dissappear.
Where did you get from that she's manipulative? I don't find her any more manipulative than Roy who threatens a 12-year old with his little brother.
But whatever,I don't wanna start a wank,
I just don't understand where you're coming from, but yeah, opinions and all that stuff.

That probably wasn't the right word, I was pretty tired. I was thinking of the scenes like when she realized Ed didn't notice the missing screw and suddenly gets all maniacal and money-hungry. Roy can be seen as manipulative, too, but it's a different kind of manipulation, it's not the emotional underhandedness that comes up in that scene. I like both characters, though, I'm mostly trying to remember what other people have complained about. For the pining, it would really take too long to find examples, and there was a bit more of it in Brotherhood than in the manga. I just remember getting irritated a few times when she seemed to fall into the role of "the girlfriend." But since I just sorta brushed those scenes aside and ignored them I could tell you where they were. Anyway, even aside from those, I think her character is supposed to be somewhat irritating, but that's part of her charm. But I can see why someone wouldn't be fond of her.
