(Anonymous) 2012-07-22 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)You CAN start climbing the ladder. You don't say whether you need a job for financial reasons or not, but working on something--whether its volunteer or unpaid--to build your resume would be a great start. Look for something free or cheap you can do in RL--a hiking club or book club or language club or something to get out of the house. The big secret of job hunting is that you can meet job contacts anywhere, but you have to put yourself in a position to meet them. (Not sure what your field is, but check Meetup.com for professional groups in your area.)

(Anonymous) 2012-07-22 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)20s is always an uncertain time, and starting off your career takes luck, as well as grit and skill. Starting off your career *now* even more so.
Getting out and doing something is great advice, whether it's work, volunteering, or clubs and society. It will take courage--possibly a lot of courage in your situation--but no matter what it is, it'll give you some skills, and after the first few weeks those skills will start to give you some confidence. It may be a tiny amount of confidence at first, and it may be fragile, but small things can be built on.
Also, be gentle with yourself if/when you get discouraged. It's easy to judge yourself when you fall short of society's standards, but try to give yourself the kind of encouragement you'd give someone you loved if they were in your situation.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-23 06:06 am (UTC)(link)I think that's a great idea, thanks. I do need a job for financial reasons, I'm just finding it hard to fill out my resume.
