That belief right there--that taking a menial job is beneath you because WOW you got a degree--is a major problem. When I look at resumes, not working at all is the worst thing, the biggest red flag that there's something WRONG with the applicant. Jobs that are irrelevant to the degree or field show that the person is practical and not full of themselves and willing to do what needs to be done. The worst people to deal with are people who have no real idea what they're doing but thing that because they have X Degree they're owed a particular kind of position and salary.

Ehm, when did I say anything about it being "beneath me".

And I say this as someone with two degrees who's done jobs like being a museum guard and did date input that a well-trained monkey could do. Trust me, I have worked jobs way below my qualification.

It's not about it being beneath you - it's about it ruining your chances of actually getting a job you aspire/you're trained for.

You have a very specific specific way of looking at resumés (and I agree, theoretically the willingness to work diverse jobs SHOULD be seen as an advantage) but in the absolute majority of cases this doesn't happen.

I know of job agencies that will not even pass on your CV if you have a lot of short term jobs because they label you as a "job hopper" and therefore unreliable. I know this through a girl who actually worked there.

I've actually been negatively addressed about this in actual job interviews. So really, I WISH potential employers thought like you, but in the absolute majority of my experience, they don't.
