tumblr gif sets make me ship pairings for shows I'm not even watching/movies I haven't seen, so that's somewhat unsettling, but fun!

omg lol this happened to me too! I shipped Matthew/Mary like burning before I had ever seen a single episode of Downton Abbey because someone I was following had so many beautiful feels and gifsets about it :D

I remember rooting for them (all without knowing a single damn thing about the show beyond its premise) while the second season was airing and the aforementioned friend/follow-ee was fangirling over them, and then had a whole bunch of retroactive "OMG I REMEMBER THAT SCENE FROM A GIFSET" moments when I got the series on DVD from the library and watched it this summer :)

did watching the source material validate your gif set shipping? i ask because my sole experience with this was following someone who was very into kirk/bones and based on the art and her passionate ~feels, i thought i'd be all over it like a fat kid in a buffet, too.

then i actually watched jj abram's star trek reboot and... mccoy ended up being my least favorite character of the ensemble and his relationship with kirk had close to zero pings in my personal otpmeter scale.

I honestly have no idea. It certainly wasn't nearly as ~epic as the gifsets made it out to be (and it spoiled most of the will-they-won't-they), but it wasn't dead weight either, so my gifset shipping may have made my appreciation of the pairing more vivid or it may have made them into a comparative anti-climax. I'm not sure what my opinion on it would have been without the gifset experience.

I did, however, go "how the fuck did this person manage to look at this gigantic amazing varied cast of fully fleshed-out characters and storylines and decide to only care about these two?"
