... that you originally didn't pick up on, but ended up shipping because the entire fandom shipped it/there was so much fic.

i'm starting this because i feel this will be the story of me and derek/stiles (teen wolf).

tumblr gif sets make me ship pairings for shows I'm not even watching/movies I haven't seen, so that's somewhat unsettling, but fun!

omg lol this happened to me too! I shipped Matthew/Mary like burning before I had ever seen a single episode of Downton Abbey because someone I was following had so many beautiful feels and gifsets about it :D

I remember rooting for them (all without knowing a single damn thing about the show beyond its premise) while the second season was airing and the aforementioned friend/follow-ee was fangirling over them, and then had a whole bunch of retroactive "OMG I REMEMBER THAT SCENE FROM A GIFSET" moments when I got the series on DVD from the library and watched it this summer :)

Iron Man/Captain America. Used to despise it because I started really getting into comics around the same time as the Civil War fiasco. Then I decided to pretend Civil War never happened, and became indifferent to it. Now thanks to a few great movieverse fics, I'm starting to find it somewhat endearing (although I don't think I'll ever be able to truly ship it... Civil War left such a bad taste in my mouth).

Oh god, seriously? I am SO sorry. One of my (many, many, MANY) horrible thoughts about Civil War was "oh god, what if a newbie to the Marvel universe reads this piece of hateful, mean-spirited, revolting, character-destroying, fictional-world-defiling, ideal-mocking, hope-stomping, pretentious, vicious, sanctimonious diarrhea as their introduction? It's basically the most polar opposite possible of everything that is delightful and glorious about the Marvel universe."

I'm not really a 'shipper', but I do have tastes for pairings and when I started reading Sherlock fic I didn't read Sherlock/John at ALL and right now all of the fics I'm following are for that pairing because it's so popular and I quite like reading it now.

I was this way with Remus/Sirius too. Never shipped it until I read The Shoebox Project and then it got reinforced by a buttload of other Marauder fic.

Plus one for the Remus/Sirius. It's not even close to being a favourite pairing of mine, and I really don't see the chemistry or potential at all, but I ship them in the fanworks. So many fics to choose from is also a bonus.

I'm with you. I think I only ship Derek/Stiles because most of the fandom does, though since the writers have picked up on it, I guess they are inserting more fan-service on that note (*cough*S2 pool scene*cough*).

Harry/Draco and Hermoine/Snape. I just... I don't even... Ugh, I'm embarrassed for myself even over anon. There is no *reason* for me to like either of these. In fact, I tend to find their dynamics off-putting in other fandoms. I've managed to avoid all the other pairing I like in all my other fandoms enough to not get sucked in, but those two...

Not that there's an abundance of fanwork for these, but Korrasami and Amolin. One made me go, "Yes I will go along with this ship and adjust my goggles immediately to see it everywhere," while the other one just makes me laugh forever.

Clint/Coulson from Avengers. *shakes head sadly* I noticed that it had so many fics, then I wondered why people were shipping them, then I went deeper. Now I'm stuck (although, truthfully, I don't mind being here.)

For a pairing that seems to have come out of the blue, there's a lot of decent fic. :)

McShep. :) I'd seen it for years on my flist before I even watched the show or knew who the characters are. I didn't see the subtext in the show at all in the first few seasons, and now I only think I see it because I was became such a fan of the pairing.

I am pathologically uninterested in alpha pairings--like, I may enjoy them, but secondary pairings will always be my fave because I'm just difficult like that--but...I guess Harry/Draco? I resisted it for a while, but then I decided I liked it in a one-sided sense, in that Draco's obsessed with Harry and Harry just has NO idea. And I wasn't shipping Albus/Gellert when I read the book, but the shippers were just SO excited when Jo confirmed it that I was kinda charmed and got into it.

There's a fandom I got into in 2002, discovered immediately that the ship I loved was way secondary to a horrible shittier ship I hated, and I waged bitter shipwar at the time and then raegquit, lurked once more, and raegquit again a few times over the years.

So I was pretty surprised last year when I ended up literally fapping over the ship I hate. I kindof have a soft spot for it now. It just took the right writer. One who brought out all the lust and the complications in it rather than playing it for lazyass OOC fixit fluff. I'm wondering about writing fic of it myself now, except that what I want to do with it is dubcon and the fans are going to kill me.

This is completely how it has been for me with Dany/Jorah from Game of Thrones. I didn't ship them in the books, and I didn't ship them season 1. Then I found the fandom, read a few fics, and now I've started to see the ship in canon. Well, not exactly a juggernaut pairing, but it is pretty popular in the parts of fandom I frequent.

Wesley/Fred from Angel if only because I got into the fandom before I'd actually even watched that far in canon. I liked Fred/Gunn that came first, but fandom was shipping Wesley/Fred, and I started shipping it.

Jack/Daniel from Stargate. I was canon all the way until I saw all the fic for Jack/Daniel. I hadn't even considered it, but now I ship it (though I still love Jack/Sam as well).

Cloud/Sephiroth. When I played the original game, I didn't ship Sephiroth with anyone, and I liked Cloud/Aerith (couldn't stand Cloud/Tifa and still can't).

Then I watched Advent Children, and after the final battle scene I was like "OMG MUST FIND HATESEX NOW!" And then I discovered fluffy Crisis Core-era fic. And then I was just fucking lost.
