Clint/Coulson from Avengers. *shakes head sadly* I noticed that it had so many fics, then I wondered why people were shipping them, then I went deeper. Now I'm stuck (although, truthfully, I don't mind being here.)

For a pairing that seems to have come out of the blue, there's a lot of decent fic. :)

I go out of my way to avoid this pairing (mostly because it doesn't appeal to me). It's kind of a pain because it pops up everywhere. Maybe I should just submit.

If the pairing actually turns you off, I totally feel your pain (gah, if I scroll past one more page that is 2/3rds Loki/Tony or Loki/Thor pairings on AO3...), but if you avoid it just because the logic jump makes you go "lolwut"...I'd submit, because that was exactly my reaction for the longest time, but when I ventured into it I was absolutely shocked at how good the fic was.

Actually, I'm not very interested in the characters, together or otherwise. I like Tony/Loki, for example, because I'm interested in Tony and I'm interested in Loki and I'm interested in seeing them interact with each other. I thought I actually liked the Tony/Loki ship, but nope, I just like them separately and together because I'll read pretty much any Tony or Loki fic.

Do you know a good beginner Clint/Coulson fic with great characterization that will get me interested in the characters?

Hmm...I'd say maybe check out the fics by BlackEyedGirl on AO3. She writes great stuff IMO. I may get back to you with something more specific later...

There's a lot of decent fic because it's one of the easiest pairings to write for. Everything can be "IC".

I disagree. Call me crazy, but "decent" and "in character" aren't synonymous. I like the fic because it's pretty devoid of petty, seme/uke, Romeo & Juliet-esque crap, and the characters are believable as employees of a secret organization. That's really all I ask for.
