1) Wow, way to defend people who often are absolute assholes. I've been in numerous fandoms where the BNFs really did refuse to read anything outside their friends' and pets' works. In small fandoms, this is especially obvious as a small handful of authors magically never get recced, included in fandom newsletters, or mentioned as part of fandom to newcomers, sometimes for no obvious reason (such as purple prose or illiterate grammar).

2) BNFs can make and break authors' readership and comments, so being snubbed (and the OP did not say THEY were being snubbed specifically but ALL non-BNFs were being snubbed) can be very, very hard to deal with as you feel that no one cares about your writing.

3) This last sentiment is the only thing I agree with.

1) If the BNF's are anti-reccing the writer, that'd be one thing, but the OP didn't say that. They just aren't reading the writers fics. Assuming that everyone other than OP who writes and reads that pairing isn't a BNF, there should be plenty of non-BNFS around to read the OP's fic. Most OTPers will read every half-way decent fic they can find that includes their OTP whether it was written by a BNF or not. Especially a pretty rare pairing.

2) If the BNFs are snubbing everyones fics but their own -- who cares. THEY AREN'T THE ONLY READERS. It's only very hard to deal with if you elevate the BNFs to such a point that only their opinion of your work matters. And just as toadying up to a BNF won't make you popular, being snubbed by one won't turn you into a leper.
