I can see the argument that Tony Stark would be Republican because of his stance during the Civil War, which could read like human rights versus prejudice, but if you read the registration act more like a gun control/weapon control issue then he reads more like a Democrat.

Movieverse =/= comicsverse.

Also, what Tony did in Civil War *completely* went against his prior characterization, which was majorly obsessed with freedom rather than security, extremely pro-individual rights, toting a ginormous hate-boner for government control and force, and rabidly opposing war and the military-industrial complex.

Basically, Civil War!Tony is the absolute polar opposite of every single thing pre-Civil War!Tony has ever stood for. Which I guess Mark Millar thought would be "cool" or "deep" or some bullshit.
