(Anonymous) 2012-07-26 02:09 am (UTC)(link)Getting some semblance of attention or popularity is easy in dA, you just need to find what is popular (fanart, anime, yaoi/borderline porn, furry art, mostly in that order), and crank it out with lots of fanpandering, and boom, you are getting attention!
Go to any page that has a lot of traffic, and you'll see mostly empty compliments, a little drama (depending on the user), and very few, if any at all, real constructive criticism.
It's a very "hugs and kisses and cuddles" environment (except when drama erupts), and the kind of people who crave that so desperately that they will sink so many time and emotions into the site, well, you can imagine how they are.
I really want to make clear that not all pre-teens, teenagers, adults, etc. with an account there are like this; what you see here are the very, very vocal minority; most people seem to lurk or not make much of a splash.
