Tumblr and fandom question

(Anonymous) 2012-07-26 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
So, I opened a Tumblr account to participate in a fandom which seems to only have activity there, and subscribed to a comm.

I made a fanart and was insecure on how to post it to the comm, so I asked a question (or I assumed I did, I'm still getting the hang on how things work there) to the mod. No answer. It's OK, I thought, those things happen. A week or so later mod posted something saying that if we wanted to share stuff we just needed to add certain tags to our posts so he/she could reblog it. I inmediately rebloged (I understand that is how you answer things on Tumblr) saying I added the tags to a post for something I really wanted to share. Cue crickets singing, because I got no answer, and the comm has keep posting other people's stuff since then.

At this point I'm sure there must be something I'm not doing right, but I really don't know what it is. I'm wary of trying a third time though, specially after my head has gone in a "I told you not to try" spree, but I also don't know if I should post my fanart in my Deviantart account; to be honest, it's not the greatest thing (quite regular, in fact) and I wouldn't want to burden further DA with crappy fanart (that's why I was using Tumblr in the first place). Also, I'm really socially anxious, and I don't know how well I could handle being ignored again.

Thoughts?

Sometimes editing posts doesn't reflect on the rest of the site (especially in reblogs, oh such terrible design tumblr why orz), but you could delete your old post (the fanart one), and post it again with the proper tags.

That way when the mod of the comm searches for new stuff, you art should pop up again.

Oh, thank you so much! It's an excellent suggestion and I will try it out. *fingers crossed*

You're welcome! I hope it works too.

tumblr can get very insane when it comes to juggling time and the things you want to do; so unless the comm and/or the mod is like, super elitist or something, it probably simply slipped from their mind amongst other activities. (I never modded anything; simply trying to keep up with my dashboard was overwhelming; I even don't want to imagine maintaining something more time-intensive!)

Reblogging something and tagging it means it won't show up in the tracked tag (which means that if a bunch of people reblog a fanart and all tag it #character it won't show up in said tag a million times).

Also I've heard people have problems sometimes with original posts not showing up in tracked tags because they tag it with too many things, but I don't post enough content to be able to speak to that. The whole tags system is kinda buggy, to be honest.

Oh, I see... I wasn't aware of that issue. Didn't know Tumblr had those kind of problems.

Thank you so much for explaining me, it has made me feel so much better that it wasn't me just being ignored :)
