Captain America was probably a Republican in his original life. But the parties have both moved so far to the right that today, Cap would be a Democrat and despise what the Republican party has become. Civil War was a metaphor for partisan politics, Cap and Iron Man are NOT in the same party.

Except that both Cap and Iron Man have ALWAYS both opposed registration-esque government paranoia in the past and always both bitterly hated government control and force (Tony even more so than Cap)? And Tony Stark during Civil War is at least in the Top Ten list of the biggest cases of character derailment in the history of superhero comics?
