Agreed. Fandom/the internet in general tends to be more open-minded in my experience, because we've sort of "seen it all" - the good, the bad, and the ugly - and it's kind of a giant shared experience thing. Even though there's wank and whatnot, it's much easier to find people with similar interests and priorities and values, because you can reach a broader range of people than those who just happened to grow up in the same place as you. And it's way easier to avoid people who try to start shit with you online than it is to do so IRL.
