The BEAUTY CONTEST. Dude I remember I was always trying to enter that when I was like nine. I thought if I won I'd get Neo-rich and Neo-famous and my life would be made. Never happened.

Anyway, it sucks that it's still like that. And I agree that advertising and asking for votes being banned would be ideal, although I'm sure people would do it anyway and then there'd be inconsistent enforcement and drama because TNT is just like that.

*wistful sigh* I remember when all I wanted from life was to be Neo-rich. I'd win the jackpot on the Wheel of Excitement and get a winning scratchcard and all my dreams would come true.

I remember the first time I ever won at the Scratch Card kiosk and realized I had enough money to buy one of those plushies that would turn my Neopet into a plushie. Happiest day of my childhood.

In hindsight I don't know why I didn't play more flash games for Neopoints. Doesn't take that long to get 10,000 NP from Extreme Herder.

I remember when I first started playing Neopets (like 10 years ago, not kidding) and even back then I always liked that "bad" artists got attention as well. Drawing Neopets art when I was a kid helped me realize that I wanted to be an artist as an adult, and here I am in art school today.

Neopets has always been a community that encourages creativity in people of all ages, no matter how much skill they have. That's what the art gallery, neopian times, beauty contest, etc, is for. And it is, at the end of the day, a site for children. it's a good thing that the few adults that do enter with good art don't always win because then some kid who's just starting out and only wants to have fun has more of a chance.

basically, cry some more. I'm sure there are tons of younger kids and less-than-stellar artists out there who have had a great confidence boost thanks to the beauty contest, and you know what, they deserve it.

I'm almost 100% Sure that asking for votes is against the rules, but we can get passive aggressive and put "Spare a Vote" in our signatures.

I got 1st in Korbat & Xweetox and 2nd in Cybunny when I tried.

I think that's pretty much how all fanart is on the internet is though? BNFs/popular people are worshipped and others, regardless of skill, are primarily ignored.

Yep, and it's not like there is a huge prize for winning the BC. Just a paltry NP prize and a trophy no one but you cares about.

But isn't the test of art skills the Art Gallery or whatever that was called? The winners were picked by the staff instead of other users, but that always seemed to be based more on actual talent/creativity. I don't know if this is still the case, but advertising yourself was legit if you kept it on the Beauty Contest board. To me, winners of the Beauty Contest earned their trophies through the time they put in encouraging others to vote for them.

TL;DR if you want a competition based on the quality of drawings, you should be looking elsewhere.

Ugh, that contest. I don't even want to *think* about how many years ago, I was poking around the entries and found a great piece that was getting no votes. I got irked for the very same reason this secret was made and had too much time on my hands, so I decided to fight fire with fire. Advertised like crazy, vote-traded (Yeesh, it's all coming back) and finally got the thing into the final placements. Felt rather proud of myself - maybe *I* have no artistic skill, but I can help someone get the recognition they deserve!

Some time later I came across the original work, which the person who entered it in the contest had ripped off. *headdesk*. For the sake of my sanity, I've steered clear since.
