There we go! One more creature with two more legs to go. Today's spider might be a bit odd, but it's definitely interesting...

And here it is:

source

This elegant spider belongs to the family Deinopidae. They're net casting spiders! Like many other spiders do, ones in this family use their nets as ways to trap prey. Unlike many other spiders, they don't just weave their webs and set it up; they weave smaller webs of two different types of fibers then use those as nets to catch prey. Here's a video of one of those in action, narrated by the esteemed Sir David Attenborough, and here are two more pictures of it, to get a better look at a very odd creature.

That spider is fascinating, it looks a little bit like a stick insect in the first image

And moths are one of my favorite insects ever (despite the fact that they have destroyed my wool clothes in the past...)

ohgod that spider is like ALL THE ARACHNOPHOBIA EVER. Maybe it made me stronger to look at those pics? I dunno. But now I'm going to flip the fuck out anytime something touches me all night.

Those caterpillars and moths are beautiful though!

I've always adored caterpillars (as well as what they turn into); there's something about that kind of transformation that fascinates me. Must be why I'd catch cicadas as a kid to watch them burst out of their first carapace to become winged.

Amazing post!

LOL, I honestly did not know that the whole Caterpie -> Butterfree evolution stages came from the same species of butterfly. *________*

Thank you for the pretty pics of Pokémon butterflies and moths, and the stick insect spider. :D
