I'm on dA, and I know someone who writes fic and draws fan art. They always get crapbuttloads of faves and comments for their fan art, but it's like pulling fucking teeth to get anywhere near that response for fan fic on dA. Granted, dA is biased to drawing to begin with, but people DO post fanfic there.

That's dA, though. I can only speak for myself, but it would never occur to me to go there to specifically search for fic, it's just not the place for it.

Uh, that's because you're on dA. Tell your friend to post at ff.net or lj or dw or ao3 or someplace where people are actually looking for fic, and they'll get faves/kudos/comments (unless they suck, or the fandom is microscopic, of course). People just don't go to dA for fic, even if a few people post it there. It's really used for visual art.

Well, yeah, dA is pretty heavily biased, like you say. It's really a lousy place for fic, which is why I don't post it there.

I don't understand why people would post fic on dA. That's the last place I'd think of to look for fic. Why not post to an actual site dedicated to actually written art?

The more exposure, the better, especially if one writes for a niche. Some fandoms are just more active on dA than they are on any writing-focused site. dA's groups are also great for massive cross-posting to help build up an audience.

I post fic to dA because I ship a fairly obscure pairing and that's where most of the activity for said pairing is based. Of course, fanfic's never going to garner as much attention as fanart over there. It is, after all, a site primarily geared towards visual displays. However, when it comes to very niche pairings, I tend have more luck there than on LJ.

Also, it's actually has a horrible user interface for written works. I tried - I hate it.
