No, but the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail worked within the realm of Indiana Jones because that was more or less about magic. Indiana Jones is a fantasy adventure series not a sci-fi adventure series. If they had a replaced the aliens with Inca gods, I think less people would be in an uproar. Basically, what they did in the movie would be the equivalent of going into the world of Harry Potter, taking away everyone's wands and replacing them with ray guns and switching the Death Eaters with BSG cyborgs. It just wouldn't be Harry Potter any more.

Basically what [personal profile] mekkio said. I'm not expecting realism, but I wasn't expecting aliens in my magical archeologist movie.
