This. No offense, OP, but from the sound of your secret, your fic was well-received, but not insanely popular, right?

Only the "jewels" of the fandom would remain after six years. Really, six years is a long, long time in fandom time.

It's very suspect.

I don't know if there is a tool for this, but I very strongly suggest that you look into something that helps you find out what site or sites the inbounds to your fic is coming from.

Someone above said that it was probably being link-spammed around by someone with a grudge — find out if this is true.

Also, the damage is done already, but stop replying to the haters. It won't stop them and it will only make you feel more frustrated and helpless. :( Block them and delete their comments, if this is possible.

If they insist, report them for harassment.

I don't know, I still get people commenting and favouriting fics of mine that are well over 6 years old AND from the freaking Harry Potter fandom. I have no idea how people even find them at this point @_@

And they are definitely not "jewels." The one that gets the most hits is actually cringeworthy enough but still getting enough hits that I actually plan to write a revised version that I can read without cringing.

However, I do agree with the general consensus that there is a good chance that something happened to start this, especially if all the reviews are going after the same thing. But without knowing more details, it's hard to know for sure.

I've found mystuff reposted (with credit even) on various sites when I assumed them lost forever because the place I posted them was no longer in existence.

Stuff survives in the oddest ways, sometimes. And can be revived just as easily.

All mine are over at FF.Net. And most have fairly common pairings. So yeah, I'm baffled that anyone can still find them. But in a good way, the fic I want to re-write was a project very near and dear to me when I wrote it in high school. It's pretty amazing/flattering that people still like it, even if I don't.

I'm still getting reviews and favorites for a fic I wrote over five years ago. It's a fic that I feel deeply embarrassed for now, but at the same time, people are obviously still enjoying it... so it feels selfish for me to want to hide it. I keep debating rewriting it to something that doesn't make me feel mortified, but at the same time...

I guess maybe the problem is more me, in that I can't seem to appreciate my old work.

See above, it is definitely not just you. My writing has changed so much in the last couple of years, plus I've just matured as a person and understand more pitfalls of fic writing (the main character in the story I'm rewriting is definitely Sue-ish, though I'm inclined to think she is at least an enjoyable Sue, if such a thing can exist).

It's a bit of a relief to know that I'm not alone. My writing style is constantly changing, and hopefully for the better.

But as it is now, just looking at the fic makes me cringe. It's mostly things like pacing and even choosing a specific characterization for one of the, er, characters. I mean, I could justify it and had situations to support that characterization, but I grew to deeply regret choosing that path.

All it would take is for one rabid SJW to read a fic they didn't like and spread the word, regardless of the age of the fic. Do you look at the posting date of every fic you read?

I still visit archives which are over 10 years old because some of my favourite old fics can only be found there, and in truth they're not PC by today's standards. Imagine if a SJW got a hold of some of them....
