"As an Italian..."

...Because Hetalia only makes fun of Italians? You could have started that sentence "As a(n)" and then said any country. Hetalia isn't picking on Italians, it takes the piss out of all countries, and uses stereotypes to mock everyone. Ok if you're offended by it, that's fine, you have a right to be, but don't try and make out like Italians are the only ones to be made fun of in Hetalia.

This pretty much. Most countries in there have their good and bad points, both of the Italys included - but there *is* some sense of balance to it, and the countries shown do have *good* and *bad* points, instead of being loaded down with just one or the other.

I dunno, if the title can be translated to "Useless Italia", I think maybe Italians have the first pick to get offended...

I dunno...N. Italy is actually portrayed as being pretty talented, albeit being a little out of touch with reality, and not the bravest guy around, where as S. Italy...is a little more in touch with reality [and grumpier], while still not being the bravest of guys. There are some other characters who...are a little more offensive [Poland, for example] in the series itself.

But he's really not. He's routinely shown as an excellent cook, lovemaker, flirt, and artist, and he's fought over several times by multiple countries for his talent and looks. He's just not interested in hard physical exercise, and he's a coward. I always thought it referred directly to Germany's opinion of Italy at the beginning of the series.
