If anyone missed it, Tessa Stone (of HiNaBN) is drawing for Oni Press, and Ananth of Johnny Wander is the writer. The comic's title is "Buzz". It'll be hard copy. (I learned of it through today's Johnny Wander update.)

Oh, Ananth. You are SO SCREWED. But then...maybe she'll come through after all...? Maybe? The possibility is there, right?

Calling it now, she flakes on this, too. Only OniPress will take legal action against her.

Do you think she does it on purpose or is it some kind of anxiety disorder or mental illness that keeps her from finishing stuff?

Because... NGL, I can relate (that's why I made the decision early in like not to become a creative professional though, but)

The former. I do not for one second think she has an anxiety disorder. Personally? I think she just gets bored of projects and goes off to the next shiny thing. Quitting her job to work on Hanna, and then dumping it to flit off to cons to sell art and making fanart for new online comics just smacks of it. Maybe ADD? IDK. And no matter what her excuse, you can't just do what she did. She had a job, and left it, disappeared, and took on ANOTHER paying gig. One which I highly doubt she will finish.

I mean, that sounds really ADD... and unless she is getting something out of it (doesn't seem like it because her reputation is pretty much shot at this point) I don't see why anyone would want to drop a project on purpose "because they got bored".

I'm not saying it makes what she does okay but that doesn't seem like normal behavior to me, so I kinda feel a little bad for her

Her rep isn't shot at all, actually. She has a TON of fans that love her. Only a few people lashed out at having their money taken, and were quickly jumped upon by her loyal fanbase. If you read her dA page, it's already flooded with people saying they love her/can't wait to read her new comic.

And since Omni didn't seem to mind she abandoned her old project+publisher...

I'd say, yeah. She got bored and flaked. She did it with three other comics before Hanna.

Wait hold up I coulda sworn a few weeks ago someone mentioned Tessa working with Omni? Or did the names get typo'd what happened with everything.

Still excited for Buzz, though, as sketchy as it makes me feel.

Sure sounds to me like anxiety disorder maybe mixed with some ADD. But maybe I'm projecting too much.

Not that it excuses her behavior, but it does explain it a bit.

From what I've heard, and from what I remember of her notes on her updates, back when I read the comic, I get the impression that she has some sort of genuine anxiety problem, BUT, in my eyes, that is not an excuse for doing this.

She said that she was nervous about being published, she was always nervous about letting her fans down, so she was aware of her problem. She has a sister who is in contact with her and could have easily relayed messages from her if she wanted to quit, and the fandom would have understood. The sister still has a deviantART account too, so she could still come clean.

The publishers, in their dA when they finally cleared up that, no, the rumors were false and they did not cheat Tessa out of money (this was the rumor from "a friend in the know" going on in tumblr for months), all but said that they wanted to let everyone know what was going on but Tessa has asked them to respect her privacy so they couldn't say anything beyond that she was alive and fine. WTF. They had to pay for all the pre-ordered books she didn't sign. They're not even a big company, so I'm not sure what sorts of shenanigans they had to do to absorb the hit.

She didn't even have to deal with the fallout herself.

She still went to cons and did art for someone else.

Many of her fans still love her and are worried about her and would forgive her if she just said what is going on.

Hell, most of the problem with the people fed up with her is the lack of closure.

She had and still has options, and she blew them all, knowingly.

So, even thought I'm sure there is definitely something medical genuinely going on with her, I don't excuse her actions just on that alone.

(And then she goes and gets into yet another publishing contract? Is she a glutton for punishment/anxiety, or...?)

I've never been a big fan (or hater) of hers but I can't wait to see where this goes. Hopefully more delicious wank I'll only hear about through f!s.

Wow. I saw the art, and it just looks her some of her Hanna characters with a recolor job. Read up on her da and everyone is just crying, telling her how much they love her, and how they're totally going to read this new comic.

She ignored them for years and they're still weeping at her feet. I feel sorry for her fanbase. :/

My bet is that the project will be finished, but it will be that writer's worse partnership experience and much drama will be had.

Well I'm sure the people who got ripped off by her won't have any problems scanning her work so everyone on the internet can see it without giving her money for it.

I hope it fucking bombs.

From what I'e seen there's a blond skinny guy with glasses, that looks like Hanna. Then there's a tall guy with blue hair who looks like a living version of the zombie dude. Oh and there's a white version of her werewolf chick. (The blond haired guy looks so much like Hanna, it's amusing)

Info is spreading, but no wank so far. Just her fans crying with tears of joy that she's alive (Well duh) and telling her they love her like the dessert sun/will follow her now comic series.

I'm... in the hopeful pile?? I'm genuinely excited to read this new comic and keeping my hopes up bUT knowing her past track record + certain people's attitudes towards her

Honestly it seems like she took this job to force herself to work? Like, she knows she'll be in deep deep shit if she fucks up -> therefore idk trying to improve her work ethic & finish something

Well, Oni Press seems bigger than 4th Dimension Entertainment, so they might have the funds to sue her for breach of contract (and possibly better written contracts too) should she try the same stunt on them.

As much as I love to internet-hate her, I would be happy if she managed to clean up her act (if this happens, she might even gather the courage to make an apology to her old fans and make it up to 4th Dimension Entertainment [if she hasn't already done it behind doors?] for bailing on them~~ one can dream okay).

I'm in the hopeful pile too, but I don't have much actual hope. I love Tessa's use of color and her carefree drawing style, but I have no respect for her professional work ethic. If she can pull this off and finish properly, then I might change my opinion. But she has to prove herself, first! :/

No. I felt so bad for her previous publisher when I had to ask for the money back. I will never read another of her webcomics and I will certainly never consider buying one - even if by some miracle she actually finishes this set.

She doesn't deserve my money or support. She's unprofessional and left her previous publisher in the negative
