"99% of our users don't use subject lines"

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Livejournal. Igrick. Let's be more like facebook. No one cares about subject lines. Our permanent users can go fuck themselves for paid compensation time. Our layout is hurting your eyes? Ha! What do you mean our new icon browser isn't working or is making you go over your bandwidth limit? Why did you buy so many of our icon packages then? What do you mean everything is slow or inaccessible for you? What is that? Did you report these bugs during beta and we didn't listen? Sorry, we're too busy inhaling the sweet, sweet smell of monny we're making through our other companies with a dash of SMUG and SELF-SATISFACTION to care about you, Livejournal users. Deal with it or leave. Wait, what is Dreamwidth? Where are you going? Y-yeah, well, fuck you too! WE'LL INTRODUCE EVEN MORE CHANGES NO ONE WANTS, HA! JOKE'S ON YOU!

Oh man, I genuinely am interested to see the long-term fall-out from that (by long term, I mean by the end of the year, since that's when year-long paid accounts bought just before Igrickgate will expire). Especially since basically the entire RP community jumped ship to Dreamwidth.

Hey, LJ? Maybe it's... not a great idea to chase off a large group of people who bought multiple paid accounts and icon packages through your shitty service?

While I was following the news and releases communities during those days, I kept seeing that many people said that they regretted renewing their accounts just weeks before the announcement, because it was before the end of the year. Many said they wouldn't renew it after this. Many had multiple paid account.

Sadly, I remember someone finding out that the same people who own LJ now also own a very, very lucrative shopping service somewhere on Asia (Thailand, maybe? I honestly don't remember the country, sorry), and that the earnings from LJ (both in ads and paid services by users) were nothing compared to what the shopping service was pulling in, so they basically could ruin the whole of LJ and wouldn't suffer for it.

Also, the Russian side of the LJ userbase doesn't have many other places to choose from that won't censor them like crazy, and they used LJ like a facebook of sorts rather than the community/blogging/fandom way we use it, so they didn't mind or even liked the changes. :(

Yeah, I was one of them, unfortunately. I had renewed two accounts and an icon package for six months just three weeks before this all blew up.

And damn, okay... that's kind of depressing. I had been on LJ for eight years before leaving for DW (I still have an account there, for the few friends who haven't moved over, but I barely use it), so it has been a bit depressing watching it steadily decline.
