I love Coulson too but man, I'm pretty sure he's dead-dead. Joss is good about that shit.

(though I'm still banking that the "Life-Decoy Model" line wasn't just a throwaway...)

Joss is good about that shit? Out of 8 lead characters in Buffy and Angel that died, two of them never came back. Tara and Cordelia, and Tara technically wasn't a lead character. If Firefly and Dollhouse had lasted longer, many of their deaths probably would have been reversed, too.

Also one of the deaths was Buffy and it's a bit hard to carry on a show when your lead's died.

Yeah, Joss is good at killing characters - not always good at keeping 'em dead. But at the same time, if Coulson's dead, why bring up the card fake-out? Just to show Fury's a skilled manipulator?

See, even if he's not dead, I REALLY don't want it to be a LMD. That ruins the bravery of his sacrifice and the pathos of his death and his symbolism in bringing the Avengers together.

I thought it was legitimately open-ended because we didn't see the body at all — we saw the paramedics coming, and then we heard Fury telling Hill over her comm that the paramedics called it. And then the hint with the cards. So I could see Fury going "oh, he's actually just badly injured, but I'm gonna tell the Avengers he's dead". But a LMD? Ugh. That would be such a cheat.

I don't want it to be a LMD, either. Ideally, we'd find out that he wasn't dead but injured. The LMD feels like such a cop-out. :/ (Though, given that the studio wanted Coulson dead it's possible they wanted him dead to introduce the LMD. Which would suck, if you ask me. D: )
