This - though I think that can be applied to the background characters as well. And come, Steve Martin and Martin Short as the priests? AWESOME [...and it doesn't hurt that their names amuse me >>;;]

That said, yeah slavery is horrible, but Rameses' reaction to what Moses was demanding, and for the reasons he was demanding it, are realistic. Telling a society to change 'Because [a god you don't believe in] says so!' just isn't usually going to work without a *lot* persuading of some type.
