I had a conversation/interaction yesterday with a lady I know that's really bothering me.

We were talking about all the Chick-Fil-A stuff that's going on, and she commented that everyone on her Facebook wouldn't shut up about it and it was getting really annoying. I don't remember what my response was, something vague, but she went on to say that her Facebook friends are talking about having sex with chickens. I think I just said "what" at that point, and I'm sure I must've given her a weird/confused look, because she "well, you know, the whole thing is about gay people", with this "are you an idiot?" kind of look on her face like that explained everything. I started to say something, but her phone rang at that point and she ended up having to go, so I never got to ask any other questions.

I can't be positive since I didn't get to ask, but logically I really don't get how "sex with chickens" clearly is a logical progression from a situation involving people being gay, and I can't help but think she was equating being gay with bestiality. I thought she was pretty open-minded, but she has made one other comment in the past about gay people that I thought was, while not outright homphobic, at least ignorant. I thought maybe I'd just misunderstood and didn't think too much about it, but now I'm starting to seriously wonder about her. I told my dad (the only person I know who also knows her) and he's sure she was just joking, but he can be naive as far as wanting to believe everyone's good and not wanting to believe bad things about people.

I see her on a pretty regular basis and in general she's a nice person, but she is kind of weird, and the past couple conversations I've had with her are making me wonder if she's really as nice as I thought...

I read one slogan that said something along the lines of "some chicks marry chicks" and maybe there was something involving "chicks" that said something about having sex.

And maybe she simply didn't know that "chick" could also mean woman and not a young bird. So she's probably just getting stuff wrong.

Nah, not in that way. She has some views that are a little out there for me, but I think she's pretty smart overall.

I'm not sure what exactly she meant, but I'm going to try to give her the benefit of the doubt...the person below brought up an interesting possibility that I hadn't even thought of.

Having not heard her say it, I can't be sure, but maybe she meant it in a, "A lot of people who argue against gay marriage also argue that allowing gay marriage will lead to people wanting to marry animals" kind of way? Because I have seen the two arguments coincide scarily often. In other words, it might not have been her saying she believed the two were related, just that the subject was bound to come up because it so often does.

That is actually quite possible, and something that hadn't even occurred to me. For now I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt since the conversation was interrupted and I'm not positive what she meant. It's possible that the next time I see her she could say something that's definitely homophobic with zero room for interpretation, and in that case I would have to re-evaluate my opinion of her as a person, but for now I'm going to try not to assume the worst.

I hope that's all it was, because if she actually meant she believed that it'd be pretty disappointing (to put it mildly). XD; But yeah, with any luck you can get a bit more context from her next time.
