Shampoo & Conditioner

[personal profile] unicornherds 2012-08-05 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
I need new S&C. Help. I've gone through a few organic type brands but they all leave my hair feeling not-really-clean. I'm pretty much ready to give up on organic.

I have long thick hair (long = middle of my back) and it's sort of oily (not super oily, but not dry or normal). Any help would be really great.

This is the first time my hair's been this long. I've always had medium to short hair or dreadlocks before now, so I'm totally clueless.

My hair is the same length and also sort of oily, and I really like the Suave Almond & Shea Butter shampoo and conditioner.

I've tried some expensive salon brands (Redken was my favorite before) but honestly, I like the Suave ones better. Plus they're easy find at pretty much any drugstore/Walmart/Target and they're only a few dollars for a giant bottle.

There's also a new Suave line called Keratin Infusion that's really nice too.

I also really like this, it makes my hair really soft.

I only know local brands, sorry. :(

For what it's worth, shampoos with chili have helped me the most when I went through "kinda oily" periods.

Chili doesn't irritate the scalp?

Not if you balance it with other ingredients, apparently! I was afraid of the same thing when I first tried out, and the lack of a perfume was unsettling, but my hair came out awesome, not dry but not oily, and fairly shiny and soft.

I'm guessing that it does depend on the brand, and how well the makers know how and what to mix.

I also think it does depend on how sensitive your scalp is in general or at the time you use it. I've never had any bad reactions, despite having periods when my skin is crazy sensitive (like, my own bodily hair driving me crazy and making me itch kind of sensitive), but thinking on it I can't guarantee that everyone will be okay with it.

I have pretty damn long hair and I stick to organics, but what I find is that if I've been using the exact same kind for a while it stops working. I gather this is normal for all kinds of shampoo, hence all the magical claims about how wonderful your life will become if you switch to some new shiny brand. So it could be that you just need a change, any change, if you've been on the same kind for a while. I just rotate different types from Lush personally, but tbh my hair is pretty low on oil so I probably have it easier finding a good match than you.
