From what I can find it doesn't seem to? Though Wiki basically says 'No one's really sure where it came from but the big theories are how people pull at it, or because it looks like the monkey puzzle tree'. I can't find a whole lot on it [outside recipes]

Yeah, I haven't had much luck either. People who claim it is or isn't don't link to any reliable sources. Thanks for trying though!

There don't seem to be any "reliable sources" on this, but none of the stories about the name I've read seem to have any racial elements.
