Next thing you'll tell me that you want all posts to have comments integrated natively. Ha!

MAYBE I AM; WHAT'S IT TO YOU?
I would like that. D: A lot. Maybe I'd get an account then!

(Anonymous) 2012-08-05 05:39 am (UTC)(link)WHY DO YOU EVEN WANT TO SOCIALIZE AND HAVE AS MUCH HUMAN CONTACT AS POSSIBLE IN A SOCIAL MEDIA SITE WHAT KIND OF TWISTED LOGIC IS THAT
Joking aside, if they made improvements like that, even little ones, I would give it another go. It was all those little things like those added up that made me ragequit.
Re: ayrt
Ah, so you were on tumblr. You seemed pretty knowledgeable about it so I assumed you either still had an account you used but kinda hated, or had one and stopped using it at some point.
I actually did create an account once, but couldn't figure anything out so abandoned it. I fail. I couldn't even find a search feature on the app I tried back then, and neither could I figure out how to reblog + comment on anything. I suppose I could've googled it, but...it shouldn't be that difficult! I totally get your dislike of some of the sites features.
Re: ayrt
(Anonymous) 2012-08-05 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)Heck, many tumblr sites still do that even without infinite scroll!
I had the exact same problems you mentioned when I started out. I wanted to quit but stuck to it because my bff irl convinced me to get one and felt bad about giving up on it so soon, so I figured out the reblogging + comment (HOW DID EVERYONE KNOW HOW TO DO IT?!) through trial and error and by seeing the html.
(If you're curious, it's like this:
Person posts a comment. Okay, so far so good.
You hit reblog, and it goes like this:
OriginalPoster:
Original Comment.
You write your comment right here and leave the above alone.
Someone else hits reblog, so:
Elaminator:
Original Poster:
Original comment.
Elaminator's comment goes here.
Person who reblogged Elaminator's comment writes their comment here.
Someone else reblogs it:
Second reblogger:
Elaminator:
Original Poster:
Original comment.
Elaminator's comment.
Second Reblogger's comment.
New reblogger writes their comment here.
And so on.
You can, of course, erase any of the above to save space if it gets cumbersome; many people actually do this.)
As for searching, I figured out that it was easier to go to some random simply layout-ed blog and use the search bar there, and then mark "search all of tumblr" instead of "search X's blog", because there wasn't a search bar in the normal posts or even the homepage! (there was just a log in or register option + a sales pitch on why you should register wtf)
This changed recently, so I have to guess that people were complaining.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-05 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)HEY, I HAD THAT FORMATTED WITH THE RIGHT SPACES SO IT LOOKED LIKE IN TUMBLR ARGH
Re: ayrt
I HATE infinite scroll. Who thought that was a good idea? I really only search tumblr on my phone because of usage reasons, but when I get a blog with infinite scroll it ALWAYS freezes my phone. Dammit to hell people. :(
And the dashboard, urg. People post so often on tumblr I don't see how it's possible to keep up with everything, unless you stay on it 24/7. Which I just can't do.
A few months is more than enough time to test something out and decide if you like it or not. But it was nice of you to try for your friend!
because there wasn't a search bar in the normal posts or even the homepage
That baffles me so much. WHY?! Like...how am I supposed to find anything without a search bar? When I first decided to try tumblr I didn't even know how to search by tags so I was so confused until I found the address for that.
Re: ayrt
(Anonymous) 2012-08-06 01:02 am (UTC)(link)How is not clicking things a bigger benefit than using too much of your RAM? Mobile sites have clicking too, nobody minds clicking if you make the buttons big and accessible enough.
WHO DESIGNED THAT WHO WHO I WOULD FAIL THEM FOREVER IF I WAS THEIR TEACHER.
Fun fact: Have you noticed in some journals an "archive" option? Well, the "browse by month" option in it is a new addition. Before that, it was INFINITE SCROLLING. With previews in the form of images for every post, be it image, text, video, whatever. It loaded a picture for every. Single. Post. So the loading time for every screen was already big, and add the infinite scrolling?
My computer froze for real and I had to turn to turn it off manually and turn it back on. D:
Dashboard: My friend who introduced me to tumblr has admitted that she spent too much of her free time in tumblr. :( I've heard of other people finding themselves spending too many hours there. I guess they're all catching up with their dashboard! D:
I timed myself and realized that I had to spend at least an hour every day to keep up with the around 9 blogs I was following. Yeah, no.
A few months is more than enough time to test something out and decide if you like it or not. But it was nice of you to try for your friend!
Thank you! She told me about memes and cute pictures she found and I did enjoy those aspects of it, and I can see why she likes it so much, but I can't stand not having everything neat and ordered and easily accessible, so the whole design of the site was a deal-breaker in the end.
I tried using tags to order everything, but that was ridiculously time-consuming.
Like, I tried to tag videos as videos, images as images, reblogs as reblogs, plus fandom, and I was spending too much time doing that, compared to the ease/encouragement of impulsive posting, it was frustrating.
I don't know how people managed to find anything. I guess they followed reblogs of reblogs and magically found everything. I don't know. OTL
Re: ayrt
You know, I don't recall anyone ever complaining about clicking! If your going to be on the internet, you're going to be clicking things. I don't see the big deal either.
And I think I have seen the archive thing! Which is much better than infinite scrolling, I agree. Thankfully I haven't run across any blogs with it lately, so I've just been clicking 'load more posts' the old fashioned way.
An hour is probably nothing in tumblr hours, tbh. But an hour for just 9 blogs...is ridiculous. Geez. I just search the tags I want until I get bored.
Yea. :( The site is certainly good for some things, it's just not very accessible imo and I don't like how 'chaotic' it is. Organization is nice! I like tagging things but if you post 25+ times a day like some people do (lol, probably more like 100 for some users), that shit takes a lot of time.
