Re: Petty Grudges You've Held Since Childhood
So it wasn't all bad teachers all the time.
Re: Petty Grudges You've Held Since Childhood
I think it's a testament to how important teachers are in children's lives that even when I ask a non-traditional 50 year old student to tell me about her most/least favorite teacher, she can tell me their names and what they did or failed to do. It breaks my heart every year to realize that some elementary school teacher destroyed the self-esteem of one of my current students with a thoughtless remark or made them feel stupid in a way that's stuck with them for years, and it makes me feel so proud every year when I realize that some elementary school teacher gave one of my students what she needed to keep going--help, validation, support, a love of reading.
