(I'm gonna read this Pratchett person's books one day. I feel like I'm missing on something big. D:)

Wow, I was looking for it and I see the author chiming in in some places to not have the fic archived or linked to. Even the wayback machine doesn't have it. (but, you know, internet, that won't stop people from sharing. thanks for the rec!)

My obsession with saving every single story I like to my hard-drive was not misplaced then.

I can only imagine what kind of nasty comments were sent the author's way that it convinced them to take the fic down forever.

(You've probably heard of this Pratchett person. He's most famous for his Discworld series of novels. It's a fun series, full of parodies and satire. I like it. :D)

I think it is worth it to save a copy of faved stories. I've seen stories
-lost because of archive deaths
-taken down by archive mods
-removed by authors' friends as a prank
-taken down for re-writes but the re-write projects were never completed
-taken down by hackers
-removed because of real-life copyright notices
-taken down because the stories were flamed
-taken down because the author was driven out of fandom by trolls
-removed because the author was in the process of becoming/became a published author
-removed because the author doesn't want their fanfiction online anymore due to difference in their view of fanfic/job requirement/discovery by family/discovery by real-life friends/other real-life issues/etc.

The internet makes it both easier to find and archive stories and easier to lose stories. Hanging out on fic finding communities is heartbreaking because they are usually the first to realize when authors have left fandom, stories are taken down, and when archives are lost.

To end on a less sombre note - I hope you manage to find a copy of the story. Happy reading!

I found a person who got a copy from another person. I hope they reply!

Thank you! <3
