I put off reading the Circle of Magic series by Tamora Pierce for *ages* even though I was a huge fan of hers already. The reason I avoided it? The first four books were written for children and I thought I was too grown-up for it (I think I may have been about 18). I finally picked up the series when I was desperate for something new to read, and flash-forward to now? My love for the CoM series outweighs my love for the collected Tortall works by a mile. And I put it off for the stupedist reason.

(Though Kel's quartet will always be my favorite single series by TP, and Squire my favorite book. Probably. I'm not sure how she could ever top them.)

oh man -- i read circle of magic as a kid waaaay before i read any of the tortall series, and i still thing that the winding circle world is the best! which character is my favorite has shifted a bit over the years, but i love them all pretty much equally now. the only one i haven't read is melting stones -- i really want to, but i'm so leery of the pov character not being one of the orginal four. (and also i keep not making time for it.)

i do like the tortall series though -- daine used to be my favorite, but now i think it's a toss up between kel and beka.
