Re: Does anyone else have no direction for their life?

I went to college (because that's what was expected of me) but I feel like all I got for my efforts as a huge debt I'll probably never pay off. The job I have I got so that I could move out of my parents' house to save my sanity...

Beyond that though I really have no clue what I'm doing with my life. I work so that I have money to live and that's about it. I'm an introvert by nature so I don't go out much - other than the occasional outing.

I feel like I want to do something "more" but I have no idea what that should be...

I feel the same way about my college experience. I majored in a language, and after 4 years of undergrad, I'm not fluent, and I'm tens of thousands of dollars in the hole, and have nothing to show for it. I'm not even interested in pursuing anything in that field as a career, either, as it turns out. As soon as it became work, it stopped being fun. :/

I'm 25 and still living with my parents, because I just about break even between my paycheck and my student loan bills, plus I have to pay my own health insurance because I don't have a proper job yet. I've been temping doing administrative assistant/clerical work for three years now, with no luck so far in landing an actual permanent position. And I have no dreams or goals aside from, "Support myself so I can move out and fund my hobbies (internet, gaming, reading, television/movies)." That's... really it. x . x

Unlike you, though, I don't have a feeling of wanting something "more" - that's something everyone else around me in my life wants for me that I DON'T want. I am content and comfortable in mediocrity; I don't have any grand ambitions. I just want to be left alone to do my little office job in peace. Just as an actual employee, and not as a temp.

Have you thought about going to the country that speaks the language you studied and do some English teaching there? I mean, it's not exactly the same type of thing, but a lot of countries have spectacular ESL programs.

And once you're there, maybe you can find some other kind of job. I have a friend that did some teaching in the Czech Republic, then got a job in the diplomatic corps.

I have thought about it. Unfortunately, teaching is just about my least favorite thing in the world, as I've found out through being in charge of training people at my various jobs (usually my replacement temps, which is totally fun). I don't have the patience for it. :(
