I don't know why this character is so popular (actually, I do. It's because many people are terrible.) He's literally a rapist and literally thinks that makes him awesome. I can't like NPH, because no one who is willing to play that kind of character presented in that way can be a good guy. I like characters and their actors who've done incredibly atrocious things, but they aren't portrayed as ~AWESOME~ by the character, the story, and the fans.

Rapist? Really? I don't think he ever raped a woman, although he's been plenty horrible to them.

But I lost a lot of respect for the show when they went from presenting Barney as a horrible empty person and presenting his womanizing as hilariously ridiculous and pathetic, to portraying him as awesome and cool and having the other four rave over how awesome and cool he is, in a blatant attempt to pander to fans. Contrast Ted and Marshall being revolted by Barney's womanizing in seasons 1-3, to being jealous and impressed with it in seasons 5-6. I thought they were giving him some amazing character development in season 4, having him try to change himself from a giant douchebag to an okay guy, but noooooo...stupid fucking season 5.

So...what makes that character a rapist, exactly? What makes it so that you can't like someone who ISN'T ACTUALLY THAT CHARACTER because THAT CHARACTER DOESN'T ACTUALLY EXIST IN REAL LIFE?
