Not OP up there but I've actually stumbled upon many a discussion by yaoi fangirls talking about how they wish they could be men for a day/howeverlong so they could have gay sex. It's really weird how that's a thing. I haven't seen anyone say they're trans, but I have definitely seen weird conversations about wanting to be cute anime boys having gay sex.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-10 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry you take them seriously.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-10 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
It was meant to be taken seriously.

Eh, they mean it. A lot of people wouldn't mind experimenting if they could just magically switch back. Is it any surprise Yaoi fangirls are no exception?

That's what I was thinking.

While this is true (the part about the yaoi fangirls), if you want to get an actual sex change you actually need to live as your desired gender for X amound of time and have a shitton of psychological evaluations (at least where I live) - so I really doubt that saying "I want to have hot gay yaoi sex" would get you the surgery.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-10 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
I know that and never really said otherwise.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-10 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, that's a common thing though..? I'm pretty sure a lot of people think about how it feels like to be the opposite sex, having sex, etc. I want to know how it feels like to hav a vag but it's not like I'm gonna cut off my penis just to try it. I feel sorry for FTMs, so much ignorance.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-10 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Lol. You'd need more than wanting to have cute yaoi tiem to have a sex change. Is it really that surprising that some FTMs like yaoi? Seems like an easy medium for a FTM to get into.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-10 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
lol at everyone misreading my comment. Maybe everyone should see what I was replying to and realize what I was referencing and saying before just dumping information my way. Or keep on trolling with your bad self.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-10 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Did I make you mad?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-10 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
IDK everyone can misread a comment in exactly the same way though. Maybe it's you.

*IDK if

I read it the right way. Maybe the rest of you really are just morons.

How is that surprising though?

Especially in anime fandom..

(Anonymous) 2012-08-10 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, you have people who want to be tentacle raped, grown men wanting to be underaged lolitas, and be an oversized furry. Not to mention cross dressing is a huge part of anime fandom but you're weirded out by a bunch of girls wanting to be dudes and try out buttsex?

You must be new.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-10 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Also, tumblr.

Men say "I'm a lesbian trapped in a man's body" and "If I was a woman for a day I would play with my tits all the damn day!"

I sort of side-eye this too, but there is actually a far amount of scholarship, etc. from Japanese yaoi writers, fans, and scholars thereof that support this idea.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-10 09:11 am (UTC)(link)
The pool of published scholars working on this topic right now is very small and rather dated. I'm thinking of McHarry and Pagliassotti in particular, or some of the work done by Kinsella, but as I say it's all rather dated and not engaging much with anything more sophisticated.

You need to read some better writers on this topic because there's just a whole lot of not-smart going on there.

To be honest, I haven't actually read any of it, because I thought as a general statement about all yaoi fans it seemed pretty stupid (not that there's any reason there couldn't be some instances of gay transmen enjoying the genre for vicarious pleasure, etc.), but I'd remembered seeing it mentioned in other academic books and bibliographies dealing with other topics.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-10 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Generally speaking it's just a very badly handled topic and I'm hoping in the future there will be scholars who make less disparaging arguments about fans of yaoi and that the enjoyment of it as a genre is not seen as 'vicarious pleasure,' which as a suggestion is kind of troubling and pretty insulting to the experience of gay transmen.

Well, yes. I find it annoying as a presentation of the "ah-ha!" reason or explanation for "why" particular people might like yaoi - something that, to my knowledge, doesn't appear to be as great an area of interest when dealing with heterosexual pornography or erotic materials. But I don't know...I think for people of any gender or sexual persuasion (except, I suppose, for some asexuals), when dealing with personal enjoyment of [to a lesser extent, perhaps] romantic and/or sexual media, it isn't such a stretch to say that a lot of the enjoyment involved could be vicarious. I suppose this speaks mostly to the throngs of self-inserts across many fandoms, but particularly in, let's say, the Twilight fandom.
Again, though, I won't say this is the end-all way to interact with yaoi or other media dealing heavily with sex (I realize Twilight does not exactly fit into that category, but it was the first thing that came into my head :P). I mean, heck, I liked yaoi when I was younger (I still enjoy slash, and some malexmale comics/manga/whatever, but the endless repetition of the abusive relationship as an idealized trope of the genre wore very thin indeed for me), but I'm a non-heterosexual female, so where does that leave me? I've seen mention of some discussion of lesbian yaoi fans enjoying yaoi's androgynous characters almost as if the characters were in fact female instead, but I don't know.

Blahblahblah etc. Anyway. :P

I don't know, I think I'd actually like finding out how having sex as a man feels (note that it's just *as* a man, the idea is not "I want to have gay buttsex!"). It's just basic curiosity, I kind of fail to see the problem with that.

Of course if it's just objectification/idealisation of male homosexual relationships (the uke/seme dynamics, that kind of stuff), I do see how it could be problematic. Especially since many a "yaoi fangirl" doesn't realise that, mostly, gay men are just people like anyone else, there's nothing fundamentally different about them. (And I would know - I used to be a pretty stupid yaoi fangirl myself, when I was a teen.)

I was one of these people for a while. They do exist.

I still have the feeling that I would like to have an organ attached to my body that has lots of nerves in it that I can use to penetrate people.

I no longer think this means I am a guy or want to be a guy. But for a while I assumed it must mean I have a male gender identity.

It took me a long time of thinking about it to realize that no, I just wish my favorite sexual thing to do was something I could physically feel in the way people with a different body type can. It doesn't make me see myself as a man.

So yeah, those people do exist... and I will also say, at the risk of being misinterpreted terribly, that I read some comments from then-PZB that I could really relate to and thought "she" was another person who felt the same way I did.
