I wish we saw more braids on kickass women. Braids are nice and practical. I think this pretty much every time I see an action hero woman with her loose hair whipping around.

Actually, that exact thing is what excited me about Snow White in Snow White and the Huntsman. In the battle scene Snow White put her hair in braids/pony tail to keep it out of the way. I know people were complaining because she wasn't wearing a helmet but that's one of the things I let slide because I'd rather see my hero's face. But yes! Braids!

Ha yes, I loved that little touch as well. It actually surprised me and I was completely willing to ignore the lack of head protection because she had her freaking hair tied back, In a pratical manner as well!

Yeah! And I actually liked her fighting. She wasn't the best but she still knew what to do. If I recall correctly, her shield and armor got dinged and so forth too, instead of her remaining perfectly pretty in battle.

That's one of the reasons I love Katniss. Her braids rocks.

braids are such the best! especially for fighting -- i don't recall where exactly i first read it (possibly in a tamora pierce book?), but getting your hair pulled when it's in a french braid is practically nothing compared to the same grip when your hair is loose or in a ponytail. i got my sister to test this theory for me. =]

they're also beautiful! i wish my hair was long and thick enough to try that 7-strand braid arwen has in the lotr movies...

but this is probably personal bias speaking: i've worn my hair up nearly every day for as long as i can remember, and even when i wear it down for a date or something i bring a hairtie or bobby pins for when i get fed up with it. even when it was really short i usually had a headband or clips to keep it out of my face
