Braids and ponytails are hardly considered formal. Maybe french braids, but most braids? Nope.

Also, women who wear their hair up all the time are no more "untouchable" than women who wear it down all the time. It's a matter of taste (and I find your analysis of the entire thing frankly a little weird.)

No, it's quite reasonable to associate hair that is constrained and restricted with a similar personality and demeanour. Hair that is loose and free, allowed to flutter in the wind and have fingers run through it, is quite naturally associated with relaxed, approachable, romantic moods.

(Costume and makeup artists actually think about this stuff when they do their job. Choices are very deliberate and are meant to enhance character personality or convey meaning. Most people do this kind of analysis in high school.)
