(Anonymous) 2012-08-10 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)In addition, I'll admit it's been a bunch of years since I read the Liquor stuff so the discomfort toward claiming a gay identity is something that I can't remember off the top of my head. But if you're right (and I'm inclined to think you are) then...yeah, I agree, that's quite disappointing. I feel like I'd wildly dislike a lot of his stuff now if I went back and reread it now that I'm Out and not a teenager anymore. Kinda sad, really.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-11 03:15 am (UTC)(link)Lost Souls was always my favorite, but as people have mentioned elsewhere in this thread, it definitely had its problematic elements as far as the rape/violence towards women. I can't help but think if I read it now I'd have a far, far different opinion of it than I did as a teenager.
