Embarrassing; dental hygiene

So the hair washing thread got me thinking;

My parents neglected ever training/teaching me to brush my teeth and I don't really remember ever doing it as a child(never went to the dentist until I was 20). I've tried so many times to force myself into a healthy habit of brushing everyday/night or even just once a day. I know it's disgusting. I hate having dirty teeth, but it's so hard to get myself into doing it all the time. I'll have a good streak of like 2 weeks of doing it on a schedule, then I will fall out of it.

I just don't know what to do. Does anyone have any tips at all for pushing yourself into doing it?
I even have insane fears of going to the dentist because I worry about them judging me and saying hurtful comments. :s So I don't go to the dentist at all really either. ugh.

Ooh, a Batman Beyond movie might actually be something kind of fresh (as fresh as you can be with a franchise this old).

The other option, I think, since the reboot is inevitable, would be to set the movie in Batman's original time-period and just go for noir.

Or, yeah, they could realize we don't always need to see the stupid origin story, and just give us a fun movie that assumes most everyone is passably familiar with Batman's beginnings.

You haven't been reading the right kind of fic, it seems. Or at least your sampling of it hasn't been too broad. There's some awesome writing out there, just scratch past the surface of fic aimed at/written by 14-year olds. Fics written by people who know their shit because they've been at it for years, with honest-to-God structure and characterisation and PLOT! not just characters smooching and bumping uglies.

By the time The Dark Knight hit theaters I had so completely lost interest in it that I still haven't bothered to see it (even when I could have gone for free). And yet, this secret makes me want to go, after all, for some reason.

Electric toothbrush. You can get one for as cheap as $25. It's fun, works much better than a regular one, and easy to use.

The 'Let the right one in' novel has this freaking heartbreaking scene in which you're told a boy prostitute went through that. His entire situation just filled me with horror and anger. His supposed client takes pity on him and gives him a fuckton of cash to get to a dentist or something. The whole thing is so fucking wrong that even a PEDOPHILE found something deeply unsettling about it *shudder*

The dentist won't judge you or hurt you, and if they do that is malpractice and you should get a new dentist. You should go to the dentist, even if you're shy and scared. What you see on tv about dentists isn't actually what most of them are like! Dentists are usually nice people, and the dental hygenist (who you'll spend the most time with) just basically brushes, flosses, and scrapes the gunk away from your teeth.

Have you tried setting an alarm in the morning and an alarm at night to tell you to brush your teeth?

it's just second nature for me and probably for most people-- wake up, brush teeth. Time for bed, brush teeth. It's just a habit you have to form.

My younger brother legit NEVER brushes his teeth and seriously I can't comprehend it. But weirdly, though his teeth are yellow and stinky, they're healthier than mine, several of which are cracked up (no dental insurance = no fixed teeth for my ass).

I am the exact same way (about this and one of the other topics brought up today -- oh, the things my parents never teach me). It's been about 8 years since I've been to the dentist, and I think I'm just going to mark on my calendar a point one-week from today to find one in my new town and make .an appointment. And then hopefully having the appointment on A Big Fucking Calendar That I Cross Days Off Of will be enough to keep me brushing regularly

I get that you're in pain and in a panic and looking for help, but the way you've phrased this and the way you later came in and said you were doing it anyway, it really bothered me. This could just be my own issues at hand, but it seems to me you're putting the pressure and responsibility of your actions on a group of strangers. That's not fair to us and it's not fair to you.

It's not fair because it is not our responsibility to stop you. You are responsible for your own body and your own actions. If you want to ask for help or ask for tips in dealing that's fine, but the way you phrased this made the outcome seem to be squarely on the shoulders of the F!S community, which is a really unfair burden to hand off.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this and I'm sorry you felt that the community didn't help you and I'm sorry that you ended up hurting yourself even after the community tried.
