pms and anxiety?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-11 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
does anyone else get really REALLY anxious while PMSing? It seems like in the last few months I get ridiculously anxious for no reason at all, right before my period, but that hasn't ever been a problem before...

Skeeter was created just for Muppet Babies, so there might be some weird copyrights thing going on.

(From the BigThink article)

Question: How would you characterize your relationship with Teller?

Penn Jillette: Business partners, I mean, the most important thing about our partnership is it's not based on cuddly love and affection. I mean, over 35 years, I mean, by many definitions he has to be my best friend. I mean, he's the person I talk to when my mom and dad died. He was there when my, you know, right after my children were born. He's all of those things but we're much more like two guys who own a dry cleaning business, you know, many of your show business partnerships start in love."

and later: "So he's become my best friend but in a very circuitous route through respect and through work."

That's why saying that "aren't really friends in real life" isn't precisely accurate, even if they only hang out once a year. They see and work with each other nearly every day for thirty years, and there's huge mutual respect and admiration. I guess it depends on how you define friendship, but... yeah, I think that's a friendship and a damn solid one, too. It just wasn't BFFs-at-first-sight.

Actually, I kept internally referring to him as "Dick". While watching the movie, I was almost sure that it was Richard just without the circus background...When he wasn't, I was disappointed. (I wonder if it's bad that I still think of him as Dick instead of John)

In my mind, I had even made up a reason to why he changed him name to "John". Since in the movie, he admits that he admired Bruce as a kid, the other kids would make fun of him wanting to live up to the "Rich" in Richard....Also, Dick jokes....Yes, I put too much thought into this....

In my defense, I've had a weird crush on Dick Grayson since....well forever....Yes, this does mean I had a crush on Burt Ward at one point >.<

Though, I'll freely admit, if it was Terry that would have been awesome. Screw Continuity, gimme Batman Beyond! (A movie which we shall never have. It's a pity we will never hear live actor use the word Schway)

Re: Embarrassing; dental hygiene

I think it's just like forming any other habit, you just have to keep on it and try to be consistent until it's a natural habit.

Try and train yourself to think relate sleepiness with brushing your teeth - wake up, brush. before bed, brush.

I have a mental checklist I go over when I go to sleep, maybe try something like that where you get in the habit of every night you go through the checklist and ask "did I brush my teeth?"

Try leaving notes as reminders. Leaving your toothbrush and toothpaste out where you will see it as a physical reminder.

Like I said, it's prob just a matter of actually making it a habit. Just stay on it and eventually I'm sure it'll become second nature.

Thank you for this. Nolan's movies left me completely cold (particularly his version of Bruce Wayne), and what you just said is probably a large part of the reason why, though I could never articulate it. While very smart, they really do lack any of the joy I usually get out of the character and the universe. That's also why I'm thankful to The Avengers and other films like it for being immediate proof that superhero movies don't have to use Nolan's formula to set box office records. I agree, I'd take a skilled fan at the helm any day.

It's porn. It's of two guys, who are gay, doing gay things to each other. I think that's pretty much the definition of 'gay' and 'porn.' Just because the people who get off on it aren't gay doesn't change what it is.

Oh gosh the Mass Effect fandom. There is a reason I never use my BSN account and mostly stick over here. However, sometimes I go over to the wiki and switch to the talk page. Man, the snide, passive-aggressive, and snobbish stuff to see there is popcorn worthy.

Everyone at that wiki may be experts on Mass Effect but they still all act like prissy bitches.

Re: I wish I could actually fly in my dreams

[personal profile] unicornherds 2012-08-11 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
I've never been able to fly in my dreams. I have dreams where I know I have the ability to fly, but in the dream it's always malfunctioning or something. Like I'll be chased by an angry mob and I'll think "I'll just take off and fly away from them" and nothing happens. I try and get a running start and jump and kind of hover in the air for a second or two, then plop back on the ground. They are some of the most frustrating dreams I've ever had.

Thing is, just because your a ranger doesn't mean you wouldn't have to deal with people on a regular basis at your job. My aunt is one - and she ended up with a desk job [even though she *is* technically a forest ranger]. So there aren't any promises.

Plus you might very well end up dealing with idiots who get lost/break the rules/don't pack right/etc and my understanding is that they're usually less than a pleasure to deal with.

It wasn't so much a "moral event horizon" or whatever jabber jabber you've got going on here OP, it was that I could tell GRRM was going to use it as an excuse to punt the character off into a spiral of grimdark from there on out, that made me stop liking him at that point.

...And I was completely right about that. Tyrion in ADWD is barely recognizable, moping and raving on about whores. To be honest, he never really seemed like a good dude to me (by tacitly condoning and supporting the actions of his siblings) so when he strangled her in a fit of pique it wasn't all that surprising. I could just tell it was going to be used as a jumping off point to make the character unfunny, so I was pretty much done with him after that.

I think ChellxWheatley in general does that to me. xD It's such a good pairing in fandom that you can make it cute/loving/or even disturbing. But when I play the game I want to forget about ships. xD It's hard to go back to, "Oh they're just silly AIs and Chell's eyerolling them," after having read probably the best love-making scene in faniction I've read ever. I have the same problem with CavexCaroline when playing the game because of what he did. But in fanfictionland? Love it.

Don't be embarrassed. Burt Ward was adorable.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-11 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
It also depends on the fandom, because different fandoms attract different ages.

Things like mainstream anime? Heaven help you!

I was pretty active in a couple corners of the fandom back when the movies were coming out and it wasn't vital to have read the books. I mean, in ran the gamut from people who had only seen the movies to people who had digested every scrap of every volume of the History of Middle Earth, so even if you had read the trilogy, you still weren't the most informed person there, and that was okay.

Tip: if there's a particular part that's bogging you down, I suggest you skip over it and pick up again in a more interesting part. You can always go back and read the part you skipped later. That's what I did when Tom Bombadill nearly destroyed my attempt to read the trilogy.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-11 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
No problem. :)

I admit I was happy to read someone else here was fan of Blue Sky as well. :D

(Anonymous) 2012-08-11 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
A+ comment.

I had no love for Jaime until we got to see his POV. After that I couldn't help but like him. We got to see him as more than just a villain who threw a child out a window and some incest pervert. What he did to Bran was ghastly but he has redeeming qualities that have really warmed his character to me. Same for Tyrion.

That's what I like so much about GOT. The majority of the characters are so gray. I even felt sorry for Theon because of the way his father treated him when he returned, especially considering his father was the one who gave him away, his last surviving son, and then didn't give a flying fuck about him when he returned.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-11 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
There are different kinds of 'smart' and 'clever' though - and a lot of people turn a blind eye towards their loved ones [though it's probably questionable how much the term applies here].

I'll admit, even with my relationship to my family as shitty as it is, I wouldn't want to admit/acknowledge that I'm related to murders/rapist/what have you.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-11 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
If people are only watching the show then it hasn't gotten to that point yet and these scenes don't happen until the fifth book it sounds like. I'm only on the third so for now he's still pretty likeable.

It's unfortunate to hear that his character takes such a disgusting turn later on.

You might have PMDD. I do, and I get really depressed and my social anxiety starts really acting up.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-11 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I am sad that so many Batman fans are obsessed with the shittiest Robin.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-11 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
The thing is in the books his wits are always talked about as being his strongest suit and honestly there aren't many instances I can think of where he actually pulls off something really clever. A lot of the times he gets himself in shitty situations because he doesn't seem to think things through, the biggest one being Shae and keeping her in the castle with him.

As for the family thing, are we talking admitting it to other people or to yourself? Tyrion had acknowledged that his father and sister were pretty downright brutal and conniving people, but every time they seemed to side swipe him despite how clever he was supposed to be.
